FOUR STARCH is a quick study on the arbitrariness of virtuosity. What is impressive? How can I hold the audience’s attention while doing relatively little? What micro-adjustments in posture, pathway, and emotional tone build a sense of anticipation? FOUR STARCH is part of a series of solos that experiment with unusual virtuosities and heightening the audience’s attention through gradual rates of change.
